A $3 million UN grant to support the health sector in Syria.

The United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund has provided a $3 million grant to support healthcare services in Syria as part of ongoing humanitarian crisis response efforts.
This step was taken in coordination with the World Health Organization, which confirmed that the funds will be directed towards enhancing primary medical care, disease monitoring, and providing psychological support in the most affected areas by displacement and conflict.
A statement by the World Health Organization quoted Cristina Bichkian, the acting WHO Representative in Syria, saying: "This funding plays a vital role in enabling us to continue emergency services and rapid response to health needs on the ground, especially at this critical stage," emphasizing that "this contribution ensures not neglecting even the most vulnerable groups."
The initiative is set to last for 6 months, benefiting over 530,000 people directly, including internally displaced persons, returning refugees, host communities, and vulnerable families. It will also contribute to improving healthcare systems on a broader scale, positively impacting around 5 million people indirectly by enhancing medical coverage across the country.
The organization highlighted in its statement the importance of this grant in "enhancing the continuity of essential medical services," particularly amidst the increasing humanitarian challenges facing Syria.
