A 6.7 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes the Russian Kuril Islands.. Warnings of Tsunami Waves

A 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Kuril Islands in Russia on Sunday, August 3, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). Russian authorities indicated the possibility of a tsunami in three affected areas.
The German centre reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, after initially estimating its strength at 6.35. On the other hand, the United States Geological Survey recorded the earthquake's strength at 7, varying in estimation from the German data.
This earthquake comes just days after the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia experienced tsunami waves reaching 3 to 4 meters high, following a violent earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 that shook the region.
Several Pacific Rim countries, including Japan, the United States, Mexico, China, Ecuador, and Peru, issued tsunami warnings following the recent Russian earthquake, reflecting renewed concerns about the implications of seismic activity in the region.
