Libya's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Taher Al-Sunni, affirmed his country's full support for Syria and its people in the current circumstances. This came during his meeting with the Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad Al-Shaaban, in New York.

The Libyan News Agency quoted Al-Sunni as saying on his "X" platform account: "During Libya's presidency of the Arab Group, I was pleased to meet His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Asaad Al-Shaaban, in New York, where we held a joint meeting in the presence of ambassadors and representatives of the Arab Group. The Minister provided an update on the latest developments in Syria, the efforts of the new transitional government and its leadership to address the current political, security, and economic challenges, confirming the state's approach to national reconciliation through comprehensive Syrian dialogue."

Al-Sunni added: "We have confirmed Libya's full support for Syria and its people in the current circumstances, and the importance of cooperation, working together, and benefiting from the experiences of both sisterly countries over the past years. The discussion also touched on ways of cooperation and the role of the Arab Group in supporting Syria and its people to recover from the crises they have been through and to preserve its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and stability."
