In the midst of escalating Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sparked controversy with his remarks regarding French President Emmanuel Macron's call for recognizing the Palestinian state. Netanyahu described this call as a "grave mistake," emphasizing that Macron is promoting the idea of a "Palestinian state in the heart of our land," which he believes aims to "destroy the state of Israel." These statements come after Macron announced that France may recognize the Palestinian state in June during a joint conference with Saudi Arabia in New York, hoping this move will encourage Israeli recognition from some Arab countries. Meanwhile, the Palestinian Red Crescent faced a new shock after the International Committee of the Red Cross announced that Israel had arrested one of its paramedics, Asad al-Nusseirat, who had lost contact after an attack on his team in Rafah, southern Gaza in March, resulting in the death of 15 paramedics. The attack, described by the United Nations as "horrific," targeted ambulance crews trying to aid the wounded, prompting Palestinian demands for an international investigation into the incident. On the military front, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, announced a successful attack targeting an Israeli special force in Rafah, resulting in casualties among the infiltrating force. On the other hand, Israeli forces issued evacuation warnings to residents in Khan Yunis, warning of an imminent attack. The Israeli army spokesperson stated that any area from which rocket shells are launched will be heavily targeted, holding Hamas and other factions responsible for the humanitarian suffering caused by displacement. In another development, field reports indicated an Israeli airstrike targeting Al-Muamalani Hospital in Gaza, leading to the near-total destruction of the building. The attack, which hit the surgery department and intensive care unit, caused significant damage to the main medical facility in the city, which housed hundreds of patients and wounded. As events escalated, the Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed that 22 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza are partially operational, appealing to the international community to protect the healthcare sector amid ongoing violations. Amid these events, the region witnessed chaos with a rise in displaced people who found no shelter, amidst tragic scenes of families wandering the streets of Gaza, some hiding in tents while Israeli airstrikes thundered above them. Naila Emad, a mother of six, described her suffering as worse than death itself, saying: "I'd rather we all die together than live in these harsh conditions."
