Steve Whitkoff, envoy of US President Donald Trump, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow today, Friday, to discuss an American plan to end the war in Ukraine under conditions that Kiev and its European allies fear would greatly benefit Moscow.
Whitkoff emerged as the main interlocutor for Washington with Putin as Trump seeks to reach an agreement to end the war, now entering its fourth year, having already held three lengthy meetings with the Russian President.
The latest visit comes after talks this week where Ukrainian and European officials resisted some American proposals on how to settle the bloodiest conflict in Europe since World War II.
Whitkoff's visit comes a day after Trump criticized a missile and drone attack on Kiev that killed at least 12 people, posting a message on social media saying, "Vladimir, stop!"
