Yihad Azour, Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department at the International Monetary Fund, announced that a mission from the Fund will head to Syria this week to assess the country's financial and economic situation directly and accurately.
In a statement to "Al-Sharq Al-Awsat" newspaper, Azour explained that the mission will study the reality of Syrian institutions on the ground to identify their technical and technological needs, and establish a comprehensive cooperation framework to help determine priorities, enabling the provision of technical advice and training programs for key personnel in the financial and economic sectors.
Azour pointed out that this visit is part of the official communication between the Syrian government and the International Monetary Fund, confirming the Fund's readiness to provide necessary support to Syria in this critical stage of its economic recovery.
Azour had stated in an interview with the Jordanian channel "Al-Mamlaka" on the fourth of May, that the Fund is open to cooperation with the Syrian government and is prepared to provide all necessary technical and technological support to drive economic reform in the country.
