Zizouf Ali.. A Seventy-Year-Old Syrian Stands Against the Flames and Inspires Social Media

The Syrian lady Zizouf Ali, from the village of Ain al-Ward in the heart of the Al-Ghab plain in western Hama, has sparked a wide wave of sympathy on social media after refusing to leave her home despite the flames reaching the outskirts of her village.
The seventy-year-old lady stood firm amidst the smoke and intense heat, while the sounds of burning trees and houses rose around her, clinging to her home that she refused to abandon.
The Syrian Civil Defense faces significant challenges in controlling the fires that broke out two days ago, due to the scarcity of water sources and the rugged terrain, which hindered firefighting efforts, while the flames spread in the mountains of the villages and towns of the Al-Ghab plain in western Hama and extended towards Jableh in the countryside of Latakia.
In light of this situation, the residents of the area rushed to work alongside the Civil Defense teams, using primitive methods to try to limit the spread of the flames and protect the homes, while officials continue to warn of the difficulty in controlling the fires due to the density of the trees and the speed of the winds.
