Zelensky praises the supportive European stance towards Ukraine and affirms: "No concession on sovereignty"

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his full support for the joint statement issued by several European leaders, affirming that any solution to end the war in Ukraine must be fair and preserve Ukrainian and European interests.
This came in a post he made on the "X" platform on Sunday, August 10, where he wrote: "The end of the war must be just, and I am grateful to everyone who stands with Ukraine and our people for peace, defending vital European security interests."
Zelensky added that Ukraine "appreciates and fully supports the statement of French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb, regarding peace."
Zelensky's statement came after European leaders welcomed U.S. efforts to end the war, but they emphasized the need to pressure Russia to provide security guarantees for Ukraine, reaffirming their commitment to the principle of "not changing borders by force."
This comes at a time when U.S. President Donald Trump is preparing to meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Alaska next Friday, in an attempt to reach an agreement to end the conflict that has lasted for more than three years.
Zelensky and his European allies warned that any agreement imposing on Ukraine to give up its territory would encourage "Russian aggression," affirming in a previous post on "Telegram" on Saturday evening that his country "will not concede any of its territory or sovereign rights." This stance is believed to potentially irritate Trump, who has made achieving peace between Kyiv and Moscow one of his foreign policy priorities, especially after previously criticizing Ukraine for sticking to its conditions and refusing to concede some areas, according to analysts' assessments.
Previous reports revealed U.S. pressures on Ukraine to accept a settlement that includes the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from parts of Donetsk, as reported by the "Wall Street Journal." As diplomatic moves continue, it seems that the upcoming negotiations will witness a struggle between upholding Ukrainian sovereignty and international pressures to end the war.
