The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, said he is ready to step down from his position if it means peace in Ukraine. He emphasized that he wants the U.S. President, Donald Trump, to be a partner to Ukraine rather than just a mediator between Kyiv and Moscow.
On the other hand, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, Steven Mnuchin, stated on Sunday that the Ukrainian President will sign a minerals agreement with the United States.
Zelensky also announced today that he wants his American counterpart, Donald Trump, to understand his position and provide tangible security guarantees to help Kyiv defend itself against the Russian invasion.
Zelensky said during a press conference in Kyiv, "I want Trump to understand each other, and we strongly need security guarantees from Trump."
The Ukrainian President confirmed that he rejects the notion that Ukraine owes the United States $500 billion for the aid provided by Washington to Kyiv during the war, a figure often cited by the U.S. President Donald Trump.
President Donald Trump said on Saturday that the United States is close to reaching an agreement with Ukraine on sharing revenues from Ukrainian minerals, as part of efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
