The alarm sirens sounded in the cities of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv and their surroundings, in a scene that caused concern and anticipation within Israel, following the detection of the launch of two rockets believed to have been fired from Yemen.
The Israeli army announced that interception attempts were made for the projectiles, but clarified that the results of these attempts are still under examination.
The army statement explained that activating the alarm sirens was done according to the policy followed in such cases, leading to a state of alert in several areas within the country, most notably the capital and its surroundings, in addition to Tel Aviv, which rarely witnesses alerts of this level of tension.
These developments come at a time when the Middle East is witnessing an escalation in regional tensions, especially with the escalation of the Houthi group in Yemen in their military operations.
Since the outbreak of the war in Gaza in October 2023, the Houthis have been launching attacks on ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, in addition to firing rockets towards Israeli territories.
With a temporary ceasefire coming into effect in January, these attacks temporarily stopped, but the escalation has recently resurfaced.
Israel had re-imposed a complete blockade on the Gaza Strip since early March, before military operations resumed in the sector on the 18th of the same month, thus ending the period of relative calm provided by the temporary ceasefire.
These developments are bringing the region back into a cycle of tension, amid growing fears of the confrontation widening to include new fronts.
