The Lebanese security forces have arrested a Yemeni citizen on charges of dealing with the Israeli "Mossad" agency and providing information about the activities of the Houthis in Yemen and Lebanon. According to a judicial source, the Yemeni citizen was arrested in Beirut last week after his security role was accidentally discovered. The source was quoted by "Al-Sharq Al-Awsat" newspaper as saying: "A chance incident led to the discovery of his security role." The source added that the suspect arrived in the Lebanese capital two months ago and stayed in one of its hotels before attempting to enter the Yemeni embassy in Beirut last week, seeking to meet the Yemeni ambassador for a job and permanent residency in Lebanon. The source explained: "He was stripped of his mobile phone, revealing constant communication with suspicious Israeli numbers, prompting the military prosecution to order his arrest." During the investigations, the detained Yemeni admitted to dealing with Israeli entities, stating that he provided them with information about the Houthis in Yemen due to being a resident of Sanaa. He also revealed that he was tasked by the "Mossad" to gather information about the presence of Houthi leaders in Lebanon after moving to Beirut. The source confirmed that the suspect was communicating with Israelis coinciding with the Israeli airstrikes on Yemen, expressing "his joy at the strikes received by the Houthis from the Americans and Israelis," describing them as "the reason for the Yemeni catastrophe and the killing of thousands of innocents since their coup against the state." The investigation indicated that the suspect was working independently and not part of a network, a method Israel has recently adopted in recruiting agents inside Lebanon. After the initial investigations, the military prosecution charged the detainee with "communicating with the Israeli enemy, spying for it on Lebanese territories, and providing information that affects national security," before being referred to the military investigative judge who issued a detention and arrest warrant based on the charges. While arrests of Israeli-affiliated agents in Lebanon are not uncommon, with military courts handling many of these cases, the irony lies in the nature of the individuals caught. Lebanon has recently witnessed the arrest of around 30 people, most of whom are close to the leadership of "Hezbollah," accused of involvement in assassinations targeting the party's members. The case of the Yemeni detainee seems to be not much different from these individuals, according to the investigations.
