US President Donald Trump announced yesterday, Tuesday, July 29, on his way back from the United Kingdom to Washington, granting Russia a final deadline of 10 days to end military operations in Ukraine, warning of imposing new sanctions if Moscow does not comply with halting the fighting.
Trump had reduced this deadline from 50 days to a period ranging from 10 to 12 days, stating that the deadline starts from Tuesday.
He told reporters before leaving Scotland: "Ten days starting today," adding: "After that, we will impose tariffs and other economic measures, and I do not know if that will affect Russia, it may or may not affect."
Despite his desire to reach a peaceful settlement during this deadline, Trump expressed his belief that the Russian side "probably wants to continue the war," indicating that he has not yet received any response from Russian President Vladimir Putin to this deadline and threats, describing it as "embarrassing."
Regarding the potential repercussions of sanctions on global oil prices, Trump pointed out that the United States will work to enhance its domestic production to compensate for any impact that may result from these measures, expressing his lack of concern about it.
This announcement comes amid escalating international tensions over the conflict in Ukraine, amid reports of discussions between the United States and Britain about possible changes in Ukrainian leadership.
