What is the truth about Trump Tower project in Damascus?

Amid a wave of anticipation and astonishment, exciting news has spread in recent days about an exceptional project that may soon see the light in the Syrian capital, Damascus: a tower bearing the name of the American President, Donald Trump.

The news is no longer just rumors, as the "Tiger" real estate group has announced its intention to actually implement the project, citing what they described as a pivotal shift in international relations following the US President's decision to lift sanctions on Syria, in response to a request from the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, during a summit in Riyadh.

Walid Al-Zuabi, the head of the Tiger group, told "The Guardian" newspaper that the ambitious project will include a 45-story skyscraper with an estimated cost of $200 million.

He explained that the project will be a symbol of peace and a message to the world that Syria deserves a bright future after years of war, indicating that the company is considering several possible locations for construction in Damascus, with the possibility of adjusting the number of floors based on the final plan.

Al-Zuabi confirmed that the company will submit an official request for building permits this week, but using the name "Trump" requires the approval of the former US President's trademark, which the company is currently working to secure through a licensing agreement.

He also noted that the construction process may take three years after completing the legal procedures and obtaining the necessary approvals.

According to Al-Zuabi, a meeting was held in January with the Syrian President, Ahmed Al-Shar'a, where the project was discussed.

The meeting came in the context of a new phase in Syria, where despite the continuation of US sanctions for a period of time, the recent decision to lift them is considered a significant shift paving the way for the country's return to the international investment arena.

In a touch reflecting the luxurious nature of the project, Al-Zuabi mentioned that the name "Trump" will be engraved in gold on the tower's facade, which he described as a "shining monument" that will bring Syria back into the spotlight after years of isolation.
