Six Reuters sources revealed that the United States is seeking to ensure that no foreign individual holds leadership positions in the Syrian government, reflecting Washington's tightening stance towards Damascus and its attempt to impose new conditions on the country's governance structure amid increasing political pressures. According to the sources, Natasha Franceschi, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Levant and Syria, handed a list of U.S. demands to Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaaban during a special meeting on the sidelines of a conference in Brussels, where the two parties discussed political developments and Washington's conditions for the future of governance in Syria. This move comes amidst escalating U.S. and international pressures on the new Syrian government, with attempts to rearrange the political landscape according to an American vision that seeks to bring about fundamental changes in the power structure, potentially opening the door to new tensions in the relations between the two sides.
