Washington Implements the Most Stringent Trade Policy Toward Brasilia by Imposing New Tariffs

Economic tensions between Brazil and the United States are escalating, following the official start of the latter's administration to impose new tariffs on a range of Brazilian imports.
This step is likely to raise tariffs on a large package of Brazilian imports to the United States from 10 to 50 percent, although the new measures include broad exemptions on products such as orange juice and the civil aviation sector, which will help mitigate the impact of the tariffs.
However, this comes contrary to previous assurances from Brazilian President Geraldo Alckmin that the new tariffs would affect only about 36 percent of Brazil's exports to the United States.
Trump's move is expected to negatively impact economic relations between the two countries, given that
these tariffs are considered the most stringent in the trade policies adopted by the United States against Brazil.
