The interim list of the United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador "Dorothy Shea," emphasized that "ensuring representative governance in Syria is the key to lasting peace and prosperity for the country." Shea stated in remarks quoted by the U.S. Embassy in Damascus on Facebook that "we have witnessed the resilience of the Syrian people who have endured 14 years of civil conflict and over fifty years of brutal regime rule." She pointed out that "strengthening accountability and ensuring representative governance are the keys to lasting peace and prosperity in Syria." These American statements come a day after Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shara announced the formation of the new government consisting of 23 ministers.
