In a new step to enhance support for Ukraine in the ongoing conflict, informed sources revealed that the United States and NATO are about to launch an innovative mechanism to finance and supply Kyiv with American weapons through funding from alliance countries.
The new mechanism, which NATO countries are working on in coordination with Ukraine and the United States, relies on allocating funds from alliance countries to purchase or transfer American weapons, with a special focus on Kyiv's priority list of essential weapons.
Initial payments of about $500 million will be delivered, while member countries negotiate under the supervision of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to determine which countries will donate or fund these weapons.
A European official, who requested anonymity, confirmed that NATO member countries aspire through this mechanism to provide weapons worth up to $10 billion to Ukraine.
He added: "This is the starting line, and it is an ambitious goal we are working to achieve, and we are on the right track to support this level of military assistance."
This development comes at a time when U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his frustration over Russia's ongoing attacks on Ukraine, as Trump initially took a more conciliatory stance towards Moscow but later threatened to impose tariffs and other measures if Russia did not make progress towards ending the conflict by August 8.
Last month, Trump announced a plan to supply Ukraine with weapons funded by European ally countries, but he has not yet clarified how this will be implemented.
Meanwhile, the situation on the ground in Ukraine continues to complicate, with increasing international support to enhance Kyiv's ability to face security challenges.
