US Commerce Secretary: Confident in Our Ability to Reach a Trade Agreement with the European Union

The US Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick, said today, Sunday, that he is confident in the United States' ability to reach a trade agreement with the European Union, but he clarified that August 1st is a tough deadline to start implementing tariffs.
Lutnick mentioned that he had just ended a phone call with European trade negotiators and that there is "a wide scope" for an agreement.
In an interview with CBS, he added: "These are the two largest trading partners in the world, talking to each other. We will reach an agreement. I am confident that we will conclude an agreement."
US President Donald Trump had threatened on July 12th to impose a 30% tariff on imports from Mexico and the European Union starting from August 1st, after weeks of negotiations with the United States' key trading partners that failed to reach a comprehensive trade agreement.
