The special envoy of U.S. President Steve Witkoff expressed President Donald Trump's dissatisfaction with the continuation of the Russian-Ukrainian war, confirming that Trump sees this war as not his direct responsibility and does not see the necessity for its continuation.
In an interview with Fox News, Witkoff said: "The president feels disappointed. He does not believe this is his war, and he sees no justification for shedding more blood. His goal is clear: he wants the death to stop."
Witkoff pointed out that the recent progress in resolving the conflict is mainly due to the Alaska summit, which brought Trump together with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He stated that this summit opened new horizons for a political solution to the crisis, adding: "We have technical teams working on the details of the agreement, and we hope to reach a comprehensive settlement by the end of the year, and perhaps even before that."
Despite this optimism, Witkoff revealed that President Trump's attempts to achieve a decisive breakthrough on this issue during August have not succeeded, despite holding two consecutive summits: the first with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, and the second with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and several European leaders in the U.S. capital, Washington.
In a related context, the United States is discussing with its European allies the details of security guarantees aimed at ending the war and ensuring it does not recur, amidst vigorous diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing conflict since February 2022.
It is noteworthy that last Sunday marked three and a half years since the outbreak of the Russian war on Ukraine, which has resulted in thousands of casualties and led to unprecedented tensions in international relations since the Cold War.
