Damascus University has made significant progress in the American ranking UniRanks for the year 2025, jumping 240 spots globally to rank 2576, up from 2816 in the previous year's ranking.
Dr. Marwan Al-Ra'i, the director of the university's ranking office, explained to SANA that this ranking evaluates over 37,000 universities worldwide based on more than 100 criteria, including the quality of scientific research such as the number of publications in global databases like "Scopus," their quality, and impact over a period of up to three years.
Al-Ra'i pointed out that the university has witnessed significant development in scientific research standards, with a doubling of internationally published research papers and the emergence of 13 studies with global impact, especially in the fields of artificial intelligence and the environment.
He added that the ranking also considers the quality of the educational process, such as the student-to-faculty ratio, curriculum development, and classrooms, where the university has made limited progress, while achieving significant progress in international cooperation with global universities.
Furthermore, UniRanks also relies on student and faculty satisfaction surveys, as well as the university's contribution to society. Damascus University has entered for the first time among the top 7% of universities globally and is the only one from Syria listed among the top 114 Arab universities out of 1497 Arab educational institutions.
It is worth noting that Damascus University is now featured in over 18 global rankings, compared to just 4 rankings at the end of 2023, reflecting its academic and research development on an international level.
