UNICEF Sounds the Alarm in Sudan: The Health Situation of Children on the Brink of Disaster

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has reported that more than 640,000 children under the age of five in North Darfur, western Sudan, are at increased risk due to violence, hunger, and disease.
The organization issued urgent appeals in its statement, noting that since the first cholera case was reported on June 21, more than 1,180 cases have been recorded, including about 300 cases among children, in addition to at least 20 deaths, in the Longa area of North Darfur state.
UNICEF also indicated that Darfur state is heading towards a catastrophic situation, with a total of cholera cases reaching approximately 2,140 by the end of July, with at least 80 deaths recorded.
In this situation, the future of more than 640,000 children under the age of five in North Darfur is under catastrophic threat due to violence, diseases, and food shortages.
