Following the recent clashes in Jabalaa between the Syrian General Security and sabotage armed groups, the UN envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, stated that he "is concerned about reports of clashes in coastal areas and civilian casualties."
He also said: "There is an urgent need for all parties to exercise restraint and ensure respect for the protection of civilians in accordance with international law."
He added: "All parties must refrain from actions that could destabilize Syria and undermine the political transition."
For the past three days, Latakia province has been witnessing tensions due to sabotage attacks carried out by remnants of the defunct regime, resulting in the killing of 15 General Security forces and causing fear among the local residents. Security forces, in coordination with the Ministry of Defense, managed to regain control of the area, conduct sweeps to ensure the safety of the residents, and eliminate the sabotage groups threatening the region's security.
