UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, emphasized today the need for a full investigation into the events on the Syrian coast, as well as the restriction of weapons solely to the state. He also pointed out the necessity of lifting sanctions on Syria, especially in the sectors of health, education, and agriculture. Pedersen welcomed the agreement between Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Mazloum Abdi, the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), regarding the future of Syria, and pledged support for their joint committee. He also welcomed the de-escalation between Syria and Lebanon after two days of clashes. Pedersen expressed rejection of the presence of Israeli forces in Syrian territories, urging the Security Council to pressure Israel to withdraw from Syria.
