The Libyan Government of National Unity announced today, Friday, the thwarting of a "serious and systematic" attempt to target the UN mission headquarters in the capital, Tripoli, in a move described by the government as an attempt to destabilize security and undermine Libya's international relations.

According to an official statement published by the government on its electronic platform "Our Government", it strongly condemned this failed attack, considering it "a criminal act targeting security and stability, and a direct affront to the relationship between Libya and the international community".

The government confirmed that the security agencies, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior, were able to detect the plot before its execution and dealt with it swiftly and effectively, as a vehicle equipped with missiles and a launch pad was seized, which was prepared to target the UN mission headquarters.

The government praised the "high readiness and quick response" of the security forces, affirming that these efforts spared the capital from a potential disaster, and that those involved and those behind them are currently being tracked, with a clear commitment not to relent in pursuing them and bringing them to justice.

The authorities also renewed their commitment to their plan to build unified and professional security institutions and to end the presence of armed groups outside the law, which enhances the state's sovereignty and stability, affirming that this incident increases their determination to move forward on this path.

Reports had circulated yesterday evening, Thursday, about an attempted targeting of the UN mission headquarters in Tripoli, with no human or material losses recorded.
This development comes just one day after a briefing by Hana Titi, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Libya, before the Security Council, in which she presented a new political roadmap to resolve the Libyan crisis.

This incident reflects the magnitude of the security challenges that Libya still faces on its path to stability, amid local and international efforts to find a comprehensive solution that ends years of division and conflict.
