The President of the Turkish International Freight Forwarders Association, Sharaf al-Din Aras, confirmed today, Saturday, that the improvement in Syria has led to a 60% increase in the number of land freight shipments during the first 5 months of the current year, reaching 113,000.

In a statement to the Anadolu Agency, Aras said, "Transit shipments through Syria were around 50,000 shipments before 2011," and added, "With the improvement in dynamics in Syria, we witnessed a 60% increase in shipping operations to Syria during the first five months of the current year, and our trips there reached 113,000."

Aras also expected that the increase in the number of trips from Turkey to Syria will continue to grow in the future, and that exports will gain significant momentum, pointing out that Turkey transports goods and products manufactured in Europe to Gulf countries such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia, through Iraq and Syria.
