In a dramatic move, US President Donald Trump announced yesterday, Tuesday, a "major and important victory" in his case against the program "60 Minutes," the network "CBS News," and Paramount Pictures.
This came in a post on his social media platform "Truth Social," where he revealed that Paramount, CBS News, and "60 Minutes" paid $16 million as part of the settlement.
Trump added that he expects to receive an additional amount estimated at $20 million from the new owners of the network, whether through advertisements, public service announcements, or similar programs, making the total settlement exceed $36 million.
Trump described the settlement as "one of his series of victories against fake news media," emphasizing that he is holding them accountable for "widespread fraud and deception," issuing a clear warning to several major US media outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, MSDNC, and CNN, declaring that "the days of deceiving the American people are over."
This settlement came after a lawsuit filed by Trump in October 2024, accusing CBS of misleading editorial amendments to an interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris, in an effort to support the Democratic Party in the elections. In a modified version of the lawsuit filed in February, Trump demanded compensation of up to $20 billion.
Meanwhile, Paramount Pictures confirmed in a statement issued on July 2, 2025, its agreement to pay $16 million to settle the lawsuit, with the clarification that the settlement does not include any apology or regret.
The settlement amount will be directed to the future Trump Presidential Library account, while Trump concluded his post with his famous slogan: "Make America Great Again!".
