President Donald Trump confirmed in an interview with "Fox News" that he was informed in advance of the Israeli strikes targeting nuclear and military sites in Iran early Friday. Trump emphasized that Iran cannot possess a nuclear bomb, expressing hope for Tehran's return to the negotiating table regarding its nuclear file, referring to the upcoming round of talks scheduled to be held in Muscat on Sunday. At the same time, the Trump administration sought to distance itself from the Israeli strikes, with a U.S. official confirming that the United States did not participate in the operation but was aware of it, emphasizing that the priority is to protect American forces in the region. An American official told "AFP" that Washington still intends to hold nuclear talks with Iran in Oman, despite the extensive Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities. Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio affirmed that the Israeli strikes were unilateral, with the United States being informed in advance that this step was necessary to defend Israel. Hours before the strikes, Trump called for a diplomatic solution to tensions with Iran, indicating that striking Iran is "very possible." Amid escalating tensions, the United States and Iran continue to prepare for a new round of nuclear negotiations, amidst fears that Israeli strikes may complicate the chances of reaching an agreement, with increasing security concerns about the potential Iranian response to U.S. forces in the region. Iran denies accusations of developing nuclear weapons, stating that its program is for peaceful purposes, while the International Atomic Energy Agency announced Iran's first violation of non-proliferation commitments in about 20 years. Tensions between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are escalating, as Trump seeks an agreement with Tehran and accelerates aid to Gaza, while Israel carries out extensive military strikes against Iran, further complicating the security situation in the region.
