President Donald Trump said today, Monday, that he may ease US sanctions on Syria in response to an inquiry from his Turkish counterpart. Syria has struggled to meet the conditions set by Washington to ease US sanctions, which keep the country isolated from the global financial system and make economic recovery more difficult after 14 years of war. Trump told reporters, "We may ease sanctions on Syria because we want to give them a fresh start." He noted that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan asked him about the sanctions imposed on Syria. Trump said, "Many have asked me about it because the way we impose sanctions on them does not give them a good starting point. So we want to see how we can help them."
