Amid escalating attacks between Israel and Iran, US President Donald Trump announced in a post on the "Truth Social" platform that peace between the two countries is now close, pointing to ongoing communications and meetings aimed at reaching a solution. Trump stated that he is making significant efforts to bring about positive change in the region, recalling his experiences in pushing Pakistan and India towards understanding, and affirming his determination to make the "Middle East great again." In an interview with ABC News, Trump confirmed the possibility of US intervention in the conflict between Israel and Iran, but emphasized that America is not currently engaged in combat. He added that he is open to a mediation role for Russian President Vladimir Putin, following a lengthy phone call between them discussing the matter. On the other hand, Israeli President Isaac Herzog considered Israeli attacks to be aimed at reshaping the scene in the Middle East, while the Israeli army confirmed that the operations do not aim to change the Iranian regime. This comes at a time when Trump warned Tehran that US forces will respond with unprecedented force if attacked, while emphasizing that the United States did not participate in Israeli airstrikes on Iranian territories. Since last Friday, Israel has carried out a series of airstrikes targeting military sites and nuclear facilities in Iran, in addition to assassinating a number of military leaders, most notably Chief of Staff Mohammad Baqeri and Revolutionary Guard Commander Qassem Soleimani, as well as nine nuclear scientists. Iranian sources reported that 14 atomic scientists were killed in the past three days according to Reuters. The escalating tension in the region raises widespread concerns, as mutual attacks continue with threats exchanged between the parties, amid intense international monitoring moment by moment.
