US President Donald Trump said that the United States has decided to stop trying to persuade Iran to enter talks regarding its nuclear program.
Trump added in recent private talks, according to sources cited by the Jerusalem Post: "If Tehran wants to participate in negotiations, they are welcome.. As for us, we will not try to persuade them or plead with them".
These statements come after extensive efforts by the Trump administration to convince Tehran to engage in negotiations, with Washington emphasizing that any future agreement must prevent Iran from enriching uranium completely.
Iran has no plans for talks
On the other hand, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ismail Baghaei, stated that Iran currently has no plans to hold talks with the United States, ahead of a new round of negotiations with the three European countries, scheduled to take place on Friday in Istanbul at the level of deputy ministers.
Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, also affirmed his country's position in an interview with Fox News, saying: "We cannot abandon our right to enrich uranium".
