Trump intends to announce the United States' adoption of naming the Gulf as the Arabian Gulf or Gulf of Arabs instead of the Persian Gulf next week.

The Associated Press quoted American officials as saying that Trump intends for the United States to adopt the name of the waterway as the Arabian Gulf, or the Gulf of Arabs, during his visit to Saudi Arabia next week.
The White House and the American National Security Council have not commented on the matter.
According to the agency, the use of "Arabian Gulf" is prevalent in many Middle Eastern countries, and for years, the US military has referred to the Gulf as the Arabian Gulf in the data and images it releases.
A dispute arose between Washington and Tehran in 2017 during Trump's first term when the name Arabian Gulf was used to describe the waterway.
At that time, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani pointed out that Trump needed to "study geography."
The American president will begin a visit to the region on May 13, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar.
