US President Donald Trump has announced his readiness to meet with representatives from Iran if necessary, indicating Tehran's desire to open a dialogue with Washington.
During statements made while heading to a campaign rally in Iowa, Trump said: "Iran wants to talk, and I think they want to talk to me, and it's time for that."
He added that the United States is not seeking to harm Iran, but wants to give it a chance to become a normal state again.
In this context, informed sources revealed that US White House envoy Steve Witkoff plans to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Oslo next week to relaunch nuclear talks between the two countries, despite no official date set for this meeting yet.
Contacts between the two sides have continued since the end of the 12-day war between Israel and Iran, mediated by the United States to cease fire. Officials from Oman and Qatar are also mediating between Washington and Tehran.
In a related development, the United States announced that it informed Israel of contacts with Iran aimed at holding a new round of negotiations in the coming days.
If held, this round is expected to be the first of its kind since Trump ordered a military strike on Iranian nuclear facilities last month.
The United States and Iran have conducted five rounds of indirect talks since last April mediated by Oman in an attempt to reach a diplomatic solution regarding Iran's nuclear program before the recent military escalation in the region.
These steps indicate the possibility of a new opening in US-Iranian relations, amid the willingness of both parties to negotiate and avoid further escalation.
