Trump escalates the conflict with universities by withdrawing 3 billion dollars from Harvard grants.

President Donald Trump has announced that he is considering withdrawing three billion dollars from scientific and engineering research grants allocated to Harvard University and redirecting them to American vocational educational institutions. This statement comes days after a temporary court order preventing the Trump administration from revoking Harvard's ability to enroll foreign students. In an escalating move, the Trump administration has already frozen around three billion dollars of federal grants awarded to Harvard, mainly intended to support biomedical and engineering research, as reported by national institutes of health and other government agencies in letters informing the university that these grants no longer align with the agencies' priorities. Thousands of international students at Harvard face the risk of being forced to leave the university if their enrollment is canceled, as foreign students make up about 27% of the total enrollment, with over 6,800 international students this year, representing a significant portion of the university's tuition revenue. An American judge issued a temporary restraining order on Friday preventing the Trump administration from implementing the policy of canceling the enrollment of foreign students, deeming the decision a violation of the U.S. Constitution and federal laws, providing students with temporary relief and protection from forced withdrawal. These developments are part of a broader battle between Trump and Harvard University and several academic and media institutions, with accusations from him and members of the Republican Party of bias in favor of the left, as he seeks to pressure them to align with his political agenda. So far, Harvard University or the White House have not responded to requests for comment on the details of the funds Trump plans to reallocate and how that would be implemented legally.
