U.S. President Donald Trump clarified today, Friday, that he received information indicating that nearly 20,000 Russian soldiers were killed this month in military operations in Ukraine.
He added in a post on his platform "Truth Social" that Russia has lost 112,500 soldiers since the beginning of the year. He emphasized that this is a huge number of casualties who died without any benefit.
Trump explained that Ukraine, on the other hand, is experiencing severe suffering, having lost nearly 8,000 soldiers since January 1, 2025, not including the missing and civilian casualties.
He stressed that this senseless war should never have happened, accusing his predecessor Joe Biden of being the reason for its outbreak. He continued: "I am here just to see if I can stop it!".
These developments came after President Vladimir Putin expressed satisfaction with the results of the negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul recently and the exchange of prisoners, noting that the most important thing is to remove the root causes of the conflict.
He stated in remarks to reporters following the meeting with his Russian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko regarding the Russia-Ukraine negotiations in Istanbul, that he sees negotiations as always necessary and important.
He added: "We need a lasting and stable peace based on solid foundations, satisfying both Russia and Ukraine, and ensuring the security of both countries... the conditions remain as they are certainly" from the Russian side.
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to Putin's statements through his social media platforms saying: "We are ready to meet with the leaders".
It is worth noting that the United States informed the United Nations Security Council on Thursday that President Donald Trump clearly expressed his desire to reach an agreement to end the Russian-Ukrainian war by August 8.
