Trump: A permanent peace agreement is the best solution for Ukraine, not a ceasefire

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that his bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Alaska summit was "great and very successful," pointing out that both sides agreed with European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the best solution to end the war in Ukraine lies in a "permanent peace agreement" and not just a "ceasefire".
Trump said in a post on the "Truth Social" platform on Saturday: "Everyone agreed that the best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to move directly towards a peace agreement, not just a ceasefire agreement that often does not hold."
He added that Ukrainian President Zelensky will visit Washington on Monday, and a date will later be set for a trilateral summit bringing together Putin, Trump, and Zelensky if "things go well," considering that such a meeting "could save the lives of millions of people."
For his part, Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian president, denied in previous statements the existence of any discussions between the Russian and American sides about holding a trilateral meeting so far.
It is noteworthy that the Alaska summit, which lasted about three hours at the "Elmendorf-Richardson" military base, addressed Ukrainian issues, including NATO expansion and security guarantees, without disclosing specific details. Both Trump and the Kremlin described the meeting as "constructive and positive."
