Iran has officially confirmed that a new round of nuclear talks will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, in the Swiss city of Geneva, with the European troika countries (France, Germany, and the United Kingdom), partners in the nuclear agreement signed in 2015.
According to what was reported by the Iranian agency "Tasnim", Iran will be represented in this round of negotiations by Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Deputy Foreign Minister, where the talks will be held at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers, following the previous round that took place in Istanbul last July.
This round comes at a sensitive time, as the deadline for reactivating the "snapback mechanism" approaches its end, which is the mechanism stipulated in the nuclear agreement that allows for the automatic re-imposition of international sanctions on Iran in the event of a violation of the agreement, and this deadline ends next October.
In a notable development, Takht-Ravanchi had previously expressed Tehran's readiness to consider reducing some of its nuclear activities in exchange for lifting the Western sanctions imposed on Iran, indicating a potential flexibility in Iranian positions.
The upcoming meeting comes amid ongoing deadlock in mediation between Tehran and Washington, following the failure of the European troika's attempts to bridge the views between the two sides during previous rounds, which adds additional importance to tomorrow's negotiations in shaping the future of the nuclear agreement.
This round could be pivotal, not only for reviving the nuclear agreement but also for determining the fate of relations between Iran and the West in the upcoming phase, with precise political and economic deadlines approaching in the region and the world.
