The US special envoy for Syria and ambassador to Turkey, Thomas Barak, warned that Lebanon faces an existential threat, and if it does not act, it may return to the "Levant" once again.

Barak, in an interview with "The National" newspaper, warned that "Lebanon is at risk of falling into the hands of regional powers unless Beirut takes action to address Hezbollah's weapons stockpiles".

Barak stated that "Lebanon needs to resolve this issue, or else it may face an existential threat".

He added: "You have Israel on one side, Iran on the other, and now you have Syria rapidly emerging, to the point that if Lebanon does not act, it will once again become the Levant".

He continued: "The Syrians say that Lebanon is our coastal resort. So, we need to act, and I understand the frustration of the Lebanese people. This bothers me".

Barak highlighted that the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar are ready to assist Lebanon if the latter takes action.
