The U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, Thomas Barak, expressed his pride on Thursday in assuming the position of the U.S. Special Envoy to Syria, affirming that he will work to implement President Donald Trump's vision for a stable and peaceful Syria.

The U.S. Embassy in Syria quoted Barak on its official Facebook page today: "President Trump has presented his clear vision for a prosperous Middle East and a stable Syria enjoying peace with itself and its neighbors."

It added: "On May 13th, the President committed to lifting the harsh U.S. sanctions imposed on Syria to enable the new government to achieve stability in the country. It is now Minister Marco Rubio's responsibility to implement the President's vision, and he stated: "Lifting the sanctions opens up vast prospects in the region for various types of peace, security, and an end to conflicts and wars."

Barak further stated: "As the representative of President Trump in Turkey, I am proud to assume the position of the U.S. Special Envoy to Syria, and to support Minister Rubio in achieving the President's vision."

Barak continued: "The lifting of sanctions on Syria will help maintain the safety of our main goal – the permanent defeat of ISIS – and will give the Syrian people a chance for a better future. In this way, we, in cooperation with our regional partners, including Turkey and the Gulf states, enable the Syrian government to restore peace, security, and hope for prosperity, as the President said: we will work together, and we will succeed together."
