US Supreme Court Limits Judicial Powers in Ruling that Boosts Trump's Influence

In a prominent legal development, the US Supreme Court issued a ruling that restricts the authority of federal judges to issue nationwide injunctions, a decision seen as a new victory for President Donald Trump and enhances the White House's ability to implement its controversial policies.
The ruling came with a majority of six conservative judges versus three liberals, a step described by political circles as a rebalancing act between the judicial and executive branches of power. The Trump administration had requested the court to limit the scope of judicial orders that previously blocked the implementation of a presidential decree regarding granting citizenship to those born in the United States. Although the ruling did not require an immediate enforcement of the decree, it directed lower courts to reconsider their decisions.
Paul Rosenzweig, a former official in the Bush administration, described the decision as "systematically weakening judicial oversight and strengthening the White House's authority," indicating a shift in power balance towards the executive branch.
This ruling comes in the context of a series of decisions made by the conservative-majority Supreme Court in favor of Trump's policies, including immigration issues, military service for transgender individuals, withholding funding from some international organizations, and dismissing Democratic members from federal labor boards. Last year, the court issued a historic decision prohibiting the prosecution of presidents for actions taken during their term, sparking debate about the court's direction towards formalizing presidential immunity.
It is expected that the Supreme Court, which begins its new term in October, will continue to rule on sensitive issues affecting Trump's administration, including restructuring government agencies and laying off federal agency employees.
In this regard, law professor Anthony Michael Kreis from the University of Georgia believes that these rulings reflect the dominance of the conservative trend in the court, considering that the Republican majority now possesses "political capital" that can help them achieve a long-term agenda.
