The Tunisian Parliament is preparing to discuss a bill aimed at protecting beachgoers and ensuring their safety on the beaches, following days after the incident of a 3-year-old girl drowning in the sea, after being swept away by the waves in the neglect of her parents while she was swimming on a rubber float.
The bill, presented by 26 deputies and published on the Parliament's website, stipulates imposing a financial penalty of 500 dinars (about 170 dollars) on any guardian or companion who leaves a child under the age of 15 swimming unsupervised, with the possibility of holding them criminally responsible in case of an accident.
The bill also prohibits actions and behaviors that pose a threat to the safety of beachgoers and expose them to danger on the beaches, such as reckless driving of water bikes or boats within swimming areas, polluting the sea and the beach with harmful substances to health or the environment, as well as spreading false rumors about dangers in the sea to disturb beachgoers.
