The Taym Facility in Deir ez-Zor Regains Readiness: Regular Maintenance and Investment Plans Restore Hope for Electric Power

The facility manager, Obeida Al-Kat, stated today, Friday, that the station, which entered service in 1990, suffered severe damage due to shelling and the theft of replacement parts, which led to its cessation of operations.
Al-Kat pointed out that local teams successfully managed to restart the first and second units, with a production capacity of up to 25 megawatts each, despite challenges related to securing spare parts, as parts from the third unit, which was 70% destroyed, were used.
In a related context, the arrival of Azerbaijani gas to Syria, under an agreement with the Ministry of Energy, has contributed to improving the electricity situation in most provinces, including Deir ez-Zor, where the hours of electrical supply have noticeably increased.
The energy investment plan, signed by the ministry with the global UCC group, includes the establishment of a power station with a capacity of 750 megawatts, and another solar power station with a capacity of 400 megawatts, which enhances job opportunities and encourages the return of residents and investment in agricultural, industrial, and tourism sectors.
Mohammed Al-Dakheel, the operations and maintenance manager, confirmed that the two units are undergoing regular operational tests to ensure readiness, noting that support from international organizations is limited to accessories without providing essential replacement parts, which increases the difficulty of maintenance operations.
