The Syrian President arrives in the Kingdom of Bahrain on his first official visit.

Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shar'a arrived in Bahrain today, Saturday, May 10, for his first visit since taking office. He was received by Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, son of the King of Bahrain, along with a high-level official delegation.
According to the Syrian Presidency, President Al-Shar'a and his accompanying delegation landed at Shaikh Isa Air Base, where they were welcomed by Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, representing His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Affairs and Youth, and Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in addition to several senior Bahraini officials.
This visit is part of a series of regional and international tours undertaken by President Al-Shar'a, including visits to Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, as well as Turkey, France, Jordan, and Egypt.
The bilateral discussions are expected to focus on the developments in Syria after the fall of the Assad regime and the role Bahrain can play in supporting the transitional phase in Syria.
It is worth noting that King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain had sent a congratulatory message to President Al-Shar'a on assuming the presidency of Syria during its transitional phase, expressing his "wishes for success and prosperity to him, and to the brotherly Syrian people for further progress and prosperity."
President Al-Shar'a had previously received a high-level Bahraini delegation led by Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif Al Zayani on January 8 at the People's Palace in Damascus. The two sides discussed ways to enhance mutual cooperation in various fields for the benefit of both countries.
During the previous meeting, President Al-Shar'a emphasized the "importance of the historical relations between Syria and Bahrain," indicating that "the new Syrian administration seeks to develop these relations in line with current challenges in the region."
On his part, Minister Al Zayani praised "the efforts made to achieve stability in Syria," expressing "his country's readiness to contribute to reconstruction and provide support in economic and developmental fields."
