The Progressive Socialist Party in Lebanon expressed deep regret today, Monday, for the events that took place in the province of Al-Suwayda, calling for immediate de-escalation as a way to stop the bloodshed.
The party affirmed in a statement carried by the Lebanese National News Agency its strong rejection of all calls demanding international protection from any party, emphasizing that the responsibility for security and protection lies solely with the Syrian state and no one else.
The party indicated that it is seeking, through necessary contacts with the concerned parties, to reach a de-escalation, stating that it is essential to reach a peaceful solution under the auspices of the Syrian state, ensuring stability, security, and civil peace in all Syrian territories, with the participation of all components of the Syrian people.
The former president of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, expressed in press statements his hope for the return of security and unity to Al-Suwayda through a political solution under the sponsorship of the Syrian authority, emphasizing the rejection of external and Israeli protection appeals.
Al-Suwayda witnessed clashes between local military groups and tribes in the Al-Maqous neighborhood of the city, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries.
