The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) has announced the suspension of shipments of some air defense missiles and precision ammunition to Ukraine, due to increasing concerns over a sharp decline in weapons stockpiles in the US Army, according to informed sources cited by Politico magazine.
Sources confirmed that the decision, made by the Pentagon's policy chief Elbridge Colby after a comprehensive review of ammunition stockpiles, has been effectively implemented after being initially taken in early June.
This measure comes as Ukraine continues to fend off intense Russian attacks with missiles and drones, especially in the east of the country where Russian forces are slowly advancing, taking advantage of their numerical superiority, particularly in the Luhansk region, which Moscow declared its control over, one of the four regions that joined the Russian Federation in September 2022.
This halt in supplies reflects US concerns about depleting vital ammunition stockpiles, raising questions about the continuity of military support for Ukraine in the face of the summer Russian offensive.
