The Palestinian Presidency Denies Israeli Claims About Appointing Samir Halila as Governor of Gaza

A responsible source in the Palestinian presidency denied the accuracy of what Israeli media circulated regarding the appointment of a Palestinian figure to manage the Gaza Strip with the knowledge or approval of the Palestinian leadership.
The source confirmed that the only entity authorized to manage the sector is the State of Palestine, represented by the government or an administrative committee that is agreed upon, to be headed by a minister in the government.
He emphasized that any dealings with a proposal contrary to this are considered a departure from the national line and align with the occupation's plans aimed at separating Gaza from the West Bank and displacing its residents, noting that the sector is an integral part of Palestinian land.
The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth had claimed that secret communications have been ongoing for months to appoint the Palestinian businessman Samir Halila as a "governor" of Gaza, under the auspices of the Arab League, with Israeli and American approval, in preparation for what it described as the "next day" in the sector.
