Official Turkish data indicates that the number of Syrians under temporary protection in Turkey has decreased by 25.8% over the past five years, reaching around 2,699,000 people. According to data from the Directorate General of Migration Management under the Turkish Ministry of Interior, the number of Syrians registered under temporary protection decreased from 3,641,370 by the end of 2020 to 2,699,787 by June 5 of the current year. Looking at the distribution by provinces, Istanbul recorded the highest number of Syrians under temporary protection with 469,142 people, followed by Gaziantep with 377,017 people, then Sanliurfa with 235,812 people. As for the highest percentage of Syrians compared to the city's population, Kilis recorded the highest percentage at 26.95%.
