The National Committee for Investigating the Events in Sweida Continues Its Field Work and Visits Villages and Damascus Prison

The National Committee for Investigating the Events in Sweida continued its field tours, visiting several villages in the Sweida Governorate and the Sayyida Zainab area in the Damascus countryside, to document the violations that occurred during the recent events and to hear directly from the testimonies of the displaced, victims, and their families.
The committee's visit also included the Central Prison of Damascus, where it met with detainees related to the events in Sweida, recorded their statements, and reviewed their health and humanitarian conditions. The committee is currently coordinating with the relevant authorities to resolve the legal situations of the detainees.
For his part, the official spokesperson for the committee, lawyer Ammar Azeddin, explained that "the investigation committee has worked since the first day after assuming its duties to establish a list of competencies and work standards that emphasize the principles of non-harm, independence, neutrality, transparency, objectivity, confidentiality, and credibility".
Azeddin added: "The committee has held meetings with many official figures and met with numerous victims and their families, as well as witnesses from all parties, and conducted examinations and technical assessments of the crime scenes".
He also praised the role of the Minister of Justice in supporting the committee's work and overcoming the difficulties it faces, expressing hope that "other official bodies and ministries will follow the example of the Ministry of Justice, as the success of the committee in its tasks forms the basis for national reconciliation and civil peace".
The committee works according to its defined tasks in the formation decision to uncover the circumstances and conditions that led to the events, investigate the allegations and violations faced by civilians, and refer anyone proven to have participated in the assaults and violations to the judiciary.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Justice announced on July 31 that it had formed the committee, which includes Judge Hatim Al-Nassan, Judge Hassan Muhammad Al-Hamwi, Judge Maysoun Hamoud Al-Tall, Judge Jamal Al-Ashqar, Brigadier General Mohiuddin Harmoush, lawyer Tarek Al-Kurdi, and lawyer Ammar Azeddin.
