Al-Monitor: US State Department Investigating Reports of American Citizen Killed in Sweida

Al-Monitor reported today, Monday, that the US State Department is looking into reports of an American citizen being killed during the unrest in the city of Sweida in southern Syria.

According to the website, an official at the US State Department, who was not identified, said, "The department is investigating accounts of the death of a person said to be an American citizen in Syria."

Hundreds of Syrians were killed in clashes between lawless groups from the sons of Sweida and Bedouin fighters, which began on July 13, prompting the Syrian government to send forces to restore order. Israel, which also includes Druze, intervened with airstrikes aimed at protecting the Syrian Druze.
