Minister of Justice, Dr. Mazhar Al-Wais, discussed with a delegation from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) led by Dr. Mohammad Madi, ways to enhance cooperation in the restoration of the infrastructure of judicial institutions and the development of the judicial system in Syria in line with the requirements of the upcoming phase. During the meeting held at the Ministry of Justice in Damascus, Minister Al-Wais reviewed the current situation of the judicial sector, emphasizing the significant damage suffered by the infrastructure of courts and justice facilities, requiring concerted efforts and the transformation of international support into practical executive programs. He stressed that the time has come to move from words to actions and work on implementing tangible projects on the ground. Al-Wais pointed out that Syria had been isolated from the world for fifty years, but the current phase represents a real opening that necessitates rebuilding national capacities and developing local capabilities, especially in the judicial field. He added that the anticipated economic leap cannot be achieved without a comprehensive update of the justice system, highlighting the importance of digital transformation as a fundamental tool to expedite procedures and achieve efficient justice. Dr. Mohammad Madi expressed the readiness of the UNDP to cooperate with the Syrian government and coordinate efforts with international donors to secure the necessary support for rehabilitating the judicial infrastructure, providing quality training programs for legal personnel, and contributing to the efforts of refugee return and stability. This meeting is part of the Syrian government's direction to enhance cooperation with international organizations and engage in developmental initiatives aimed at supporting the early recovery phase, achieving justice, and improving the quality of services provided to citizens.
