The meeting addressed the draft of the proposed law, in preparation for the issuance of executive instructions, focusing on its main objectives, including:
• Supporting investment in the health sector
• Regulating the work of private hospitals and medical facilities
• Improving the quality of medical services provided
The attendees discussed the mechanism for licensing health facilities, which includes:
• Private clinics
• Assisted health service centers
• Medical centers
• Ambulance transport centers
• Hospitals and medical and tourism resorts
Minister Al-Ali emphasized the importance of the new law in supporting the establishment of integrated medical cities and health and tourism resorts, according to approved quality standards, which enhances therapeutic tourism and creates an attractive investment environment.
The minister stressed that the proposed legislation includes strict oversight measures, reaching the point of closing facilities that do not report communicable diseases, as they pose a risk to public health, in addition to holding unlicensed facilities accountable.
The meeting also discussed the mechanism for establishing medical cities, determining the owning and responsible entities for licensing, alongside the distribution of tasks and responsibilities, controlling violations, and the administrative procedures that must be followed.
It is noteworthy that Minister Al-Ali had issued a decision to form a specialized committee to study and update Legislative Decree No. 968 of 1953, which regulates the licensing process for private hospitals in Syria, as part of the development of the legal framework for the health sector.
